Open Heaven 24 December 2024 – The Reason For His Birth (2)

OPEN HEAVEN

Jesus’ birth wasn’t merely a moment in time; it was the fulfillment of a divine plan. The Bible explains that Jesus came down to Earth in human flesh to experience the same pains, struggles, and temptations we face daily (John 1:14). This profound truth makes the birth of Jesus more than just a story; it highlights the depth of God’s love for humanity. Jesus, through His life, showed us the way, teaching us how to walk in faith despite challenges.

Hebrews 2:17 clearly tells us that Jesus had to be made like us in every way to be a faithful and merciful high priest. He experienced life as we do, and through His experience, He can now advocate for us before the Father. He reconciled us to God by His sacrificial death, making a way for us to experience His grace and mercy.

A Leader Who Understands Our Struggles

In Hebrews 4:15, we are reminded that Jesus is a high priest who understands our struggles. He was tempted in every way that we are, yet He remained sinless. This sets Him apart from any other leader. When we face difficulties, Jesus doesn’t stand apart from us—He has walked through the same experiences. Therefore, He can truly empathize with our pain and struggles. His example shows us that it is possible to live righteously, even in the midst of temptations and trials.

Why is this so important? Because we are not alone in our journey. Jesus, who faced every temptation known to man, is not only our example but also our advocate. He intercedes on our behalf, and when we fall into sin, He pleads with the Father, helping us return to the path of righteousness (1 John 2:1). This is the depth of His love for us. He did not come to Earth just to teach, but to walk with us, guide us, and advocate for us.

Overcoming Temptations Through Christ

Every Christian faces temptations. It is part of our human experience. However, what sets us apart is how we respond to these temptations. Jesus did not just command us to overcome sin—He showed us that it is possible. His life was an example of how to resist temptation and remain steadfast in faith. And the good news is, He is always there to help us when we are weak.

In Hebrews 4:16, we are encouraged to approach God’s throne of grace boldly. Why? Because we have a Savior who knows our weaknesses and is ready to give us strength. He is not a distant leader who tells us what to do from afar; He walks beside us, offering us the strength to resist the temptation that we face daily. When we call on Him, He empowers us to rise above sin.

The Call to Walk As Jesus Walked

1 John 2:6 challenges us to walk as Jesus walked. This is not just a call to imitate Him; it’s a call to live with the same purpose, grace, and righteousness He demonstrated. Jesus lived His life with a focus on pleasing the Father. He lived humbly, showed compassion, and walked in constant communion with God.

We, too, are called to live in a way that reflects Jesus’ life. The power to live like Jesus doesn’t come from our own strength—it comes from Him. As we abide in Him and allow His Word to guide us, we grow in our ability to live a life that honors God. Our actions and decisions should reflect His teachings and His example.

Victory Over Sin Through Jesus Christ

Jesus’ birth marked the beginning of a journey that would change the world. His life, death, and resurrection made it possible for us to live victorious lives, free from the bondage of sin. But we must actively walk in that victory by keeping His commands and following His example.

We are not meant to live in sin, constantly falling short of God’s glory. Instead, we are empowered to live above sin by relying on Jesus, who provides both the example and the strength to overcome. Jesus didn’t just come to Earth to save us from sin—He came to show us that we can live holy lives through Him.

Embrace the Power of His Birth

As we reflect on the reason for Jesus’ birth, let us remember that His coming was not just for a past generation—it was for us. Jesus came to experience our pain, to show us how to overcome temptation, and to be our advocate before God. His birth was the beginning of a journey that would forever change our relationship with God.

In this season, don’t just celebrate His birth—embrace the life He calls you to live. Trust that He understands your struggles and is always with you, empowering you to walk in victory. As you celebrate His birth, let your life reflect His love, His righteousness, and His power to overcome sin.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your birth, Your example, and Your continued advocacy for me. Help me to walk in the victory You’ve already secured for me. Teach me to resist temptation and live a life that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hymn 33 – Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

  1. Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah!
    Pilgrim through this barren land;
    I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
    Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
    Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven!
    Feed me now and evermore.
  2. Open Thou the crystal fountain,
    Whence the healing stream doth flow:
    Let the fiery, cloudy pillar
    Lead me all my journey through.
    Strong deliverer! strong deliverer!
    Be Thou still my strength and shield.
  3. If I tread the verge of Jordan,
    Bid my anxious fears subside;
    Bear me through the swelling torrent,
    Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
    Songs of praises! songs of praises!
    I will ever give to Thee.
  4. Saviour, come! We long to see Thee,
    Long to dwell with Thee above;
    And to know in full communion,
    All the sweetness of Thy love.
    Come, Lord Jesus! Come, Lord Jesus!
    Take Thy waiting people home.
